Ammunition & UXO

Advisory, survey, and clearance across the lifecycle of military and legacy ammunition — rooted in operator-level EOD experience and aligned with international standards.

// 02.A — BRIEF

Brief.

ERM provides advisory, survey, and clearance services across the lifecycle of military and legacy ammunition. Our consultants and field teams bring operator-level Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experience, applied to stockpile management, UXO contamination, and ammunition storage governance.

Whether the requirement is a multi-year programme of stockpile reduction or a single technical survey of a contaminated site, the work is grounded in the same operator perspective and aligned with international guidance — including the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG), NATO STANAGs, and applicable national frameworks.

Engagements are structured around safe-by-default operating principles. Our deliverables are documented to a standard that holds up to client audit and to the regulatory inspection that follows.

// 02.B — APPROACH

Approach.

  1. 01

    Survey

Establish the current state — stockpile, contamination, infrastructure. Non-technical and technical methods applied as appropriate.

  2. 02

    Risk Classification

Prioritise by hazard, criticality, and operating tempo. Output is a working risk picture — not a static report.

  3. 03

    Treatment

Clearance, disposal, remediation, infrastructure work — performed to international standard with documented chain of custody.

  4. 04

    Assurance

Documentation, certification, post-treatment validation, and handover to the client’s standing capability.

A

PSSM Advisory

Physical Security and Stockpile Management determines whether a stockpile is an asset or a hazard. ERM provides advisory across the PSSM continuum — site assessment, governance review, SOP authoring, and remediation planning — aligned with the IATG and applicable NATO standards. We work with national authorities and operators to bring stockpiles into compliance and keep them there.

Deliverables

  • Stockpile risk assessment
  • Governance & SOP authoring
  • Remediation roadmap
  • Compliance-readiness review

Output

A stockpile that meets international PSSM standards and is supported by governance the operator can sustain.

B

UXO Survey & Clearance

Legacy battlefield, training area, and former-conflict environments carry contamination that constrains land use and protects no one. ERM teams deliver non-technical survey (NTS), technical survey, and clearance to international humanitarian and military standards. Engagements range from single-asset clearance to multi-year programmes.

Deliverables

  • Non-technical survey
  • Technical survey & clearance
  • Disposal & documentation
  • Post-clearance certification

Output

Land released to its intended use, with documented clearance certificates and post-clearance assurance.

C

Storage Compliance Audit

Ammunition storage facilities, magazines, and licensed sites operate under explosive-safety frameworks that require continual demonstration of compliance. ERM audits these sites against applicable standards — IATG, STANAGs, national licensing frameworks — and provides the technical advisory required to close gaps and maintain license.

Deliverables

  • Magazine compliance audit
  • Quantity-distance review
  • Licensing & documentation support
  • Gap-remediation plan

Output

A storage facility documented to compliance standard and a remediation plan where required.
